Statement of Philosophy
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of Wonarrua Country and pay our respects to the elders' past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal Australia. We must always remember that under the concrete, and under the asphalt, this land is, was and always will be traditional Aboriginal land.
At Telarah Public School Preschool we believe children are capable learners who are active contributors to their learning through choices and play-based experiences. Children should be valued as individuals in the context of their family and community and develop a sense of belonging through a supportive, adventurous and safe environment. Sharing knowledge, culture and insights of families is integral to the care and education of children. Each staff member brings fundamental personal qualities to the environment such as empathy, respect, warmth and a commitment for teaching and lifelong learning.
Our educators aim to promote thriving and engaged children who are confident and positive about their learning and their future in an environment which encourages exploration, agency and independence. Our environment promotes a connection to the land, culture and imagination and provides varied unpredictable opportunities that, at times, are risky. It is this risk that allows children to explore and test the limits of their physical, intellectual and emotional capacity whilst at play.
Our educators also aim to promote parent engagement about decisions that affect our Preschool including using the technologies with which our parents already engage. Our educators are committed to providing quality learning experiences and exceeding the expectations of our community and families while working in the best interests of our children by using honest, professional, reflective practice and implementing our Quality Improvement Plan. We are committed to closing the gap for our Aboriginal children by promoting and integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders perspectives, ways of knowing and being at our service, reflecting our local communities. We warmly welcome children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds, actively embracing and celebrating their unique practices, values, and beliefs as part of our community.
Our intention is to prioritise a safe, nurturing environment for all children, upholding the core values and principles outlined in the Child Safe Standards. Our staff use our Quality Improvement Plan as a living, working document and constantly review our experiences to improve our service, aiming for best practice in all areas.
Telarah Public School Preschool believe children will feel a sense of belonging in our environment. We understand that childhood is a time to be, to seek and make meaning of the world. We provide all children with learning that is engaging and builds success for life.
